The Economics, Accounting, and Business Management Department is an integrated department offering several majors. The department is rooted in the classical liberal-arts tradition; its primary focus is the study of human behavior and rational decision-making. Students in this department benefit from excellent teaching utilizing a variety of methods, including traditional lecture formats, computer simulations, case studies, presentations and group projects. This multi-dimensional approach actively involves students in the learning process. Its success is validated by such concrete measures as student
performance on standardized examinations (including the CPA, CMA, GMAT, GRE and LSAT), the acceptance of our students into nationally recognized graduate and professional programs and the outstanding performance of our graduates in their chosen careers.
The education of students in this department extends well beyond the classroom experience. Strong academic advising is provided to enable students to make wise decisions regarding their course choices, methods of study and co-curricular learning experiences. Studying at one or more of Central's international studies centers and/or the Chicago program is strongly recommended for majors because an appreciation of global and cultural diversity is critical for those who will actively participate in the 21st century.
While at Central, students participate in preprofessional clubs and activities, senior research experiences, independent study courses and internships arranged with local firms, through the Chicago program, or through the international programs. The department offers four majors: economics, accounting, business management, and international management. In addition, students who wish to combine the disciplines of accounting or management with computer science may wish to consider the information systems major.
