Ohio Wesleyan University,Economics Department

The economics department offers a major and a minor in each area of study: economics, economics with a management concentration, and accounting. There is considerable interdependence among the three tracks, and students work closely with faculty and advisors to tailor individual programs to their personal interests and aspirations
The Ohio Wesleyan University Economics Department offers programs in Economics, Management and Accounting-all of them built upon a careful understanding of the central role of economic thinking in the key decisions that confront us in our various roles. For whichever career you plan, you are an important builder of your future in a world governed by changing trends in trade, resources, interest rates and international policy.
An informed understanding of the economic issues underlying these trends is immensely practical. Graduates of our program are well-prepared to enter the world of work. In a long-term study (1980s) by Standard and Poor, Ohio Wesleyan ranked 15th among all of the nation's private, four-year institutions in graduates earning doctorates in economics. And our students continue to be selected by the country's leading M.B.A. programs.
The success of our students demonstrates the quality of instruction they receive here. Our faculty combines solid academic training with real-world experience in consulting and applied research. They bring this experience into the lives of their students in personal conferences, directed readings and independent study opportunities, or in casual faculty-student get-togethers.
As a student at Ohio Wesleyan, you'll be exposed to a wide variety of perspectives offered by Ohio Wesleyan's liberal arts curriculum. Besides broadening your knowledge, our curriculum helps you sharpen your skills in critical thinking and effective oral and written communication. Equally important is the understanding you'll obtain of the nation's economy within a global context.
  Apprenticeships and Internships
To compliment theoretical learning with practice in the field, qualified students may take advantage of our growing apprenticeship and internship program. Students may work part time for a Delaware or Columbus firm while also attending classes or they may actually leave campus to work in some distant location. Recent student placements have been in firms such as Nationwide Insurance, The Limited, Coopers and Lybrand, Deloitte and Touche, Delaware County Bank, RWI in Germany and Duarte Vivas & Associates in Venezuela
