  Economics Program Information

  The mission of the Department of Economics is to provide high quality instruction in economics at both the undergraduate and graduate level, to offer programs which focus on community economic education and to provide service to the university, profession, and community. The curriculum emphasizes the development of students'' oral, writing, and problem solving skills necessary to succeed in the global marketplace. The department promotes pure and applied research and consulting activities in domestic and international areas.

  The Department offers a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science degree (follow this link to see the requirements for the B.A./B.S. degree in Economics) with a Basic Concentration, as well as Concentrations in International Economics and Managerial Economics.

  The Basic Concentration requires 18 semester hours in economic electives. The Managerial Economics Concentration is designed to prepare students for high entry level, high responsibility, non-specialized, managerial jobs. It includes 18 hours of economics, accounting, and finance courses. The Labor and Human Resources Concentration prepares students for planning, administration, and evaluation of manpower training and development programs, both public and private. It includes 18 hours of economics and management courses. The International Concentration is designed to prepare students for careers in international business of finance and careers with firms having international operations.

  On the Graduate level, the Department offers a Masters of Science in International Economics (follow this link to see the requirements for the M.S. degree in International Economics). This degree consists of graduate courses in Economics (with special emphasis in International Trade and Monetary Policy) and courses in related areas such as History, Psychology, Communications, Sociology, Political Science, Finance and Marketing. Proficiency in a major foreign language is also required. Completion of this program requires a minimum of thirty semester hours for the non- thesis option, and thirty-three semester hours for the thesis option.
