The Department of Economics and Finance introduces basic theory and its application to domestic and global economic issues. It further provides the student with a comprehensive understanding of the operation and functioning of the U.S. financial system and its international relationships. The Department offers an Economics major to students in the Business and Liberal Arts Colleges and a Finance major to students in the Business College. The Economics and Finance majors may be pursued; as a terminal degree for the student interested in a business career and/or the student seeking preparation for entry-level positions in industries such as banking, securities and insurance; or as a prelude to graduate study in business, law, education and other professions. Additionally, the Economics major is the basis for advanced graduate study, usually required for a position as professional economist in business and government.
