General Description

Guanghua School of Management at Peking University and The Bureau for Research and

Economic Analysis of Development (BREAD, http://ipl.econ.duke.edu/bread/) will

jointly organize the Summer School on Development Economics in 2012. The objective

of the summer school is to provide young researchers (junior faculty members, post-docs,

and advanced Ph.D. students) with a detailed overview of the key topics and empirical

methods in development research. Participants will also have the opportunity to discuss

their own research with leading economists. The China Economics Summer Institute will

be taking place at the same time and all participants in the Summer School are welcome

to participate.

Lectures

Abhijit Banerjee (MIT): Credit Markets

Chang-Tai Hsieh (University of Chicago): Productivity

Ted Miguel (UC Berkeley): Political Economy

Seema Jayachandran (Northwestern University): Education and Health

David Donaldson (MIT): Trade and Development

Selected projects by participants will be presented and discussed in the Summer School.

All participants are required to submit either completed empirical papers on development

issues or detailed proposals with conceptual and methodological problems to be explored.

All participants are asked to stay for the entire duration of the Summer School, read the

assigned readings, and be prepared to discuss their research.

Application and Deadlines

This call invites you to submit a CV, a research paper/proposal, and a reference letter. All

applications should be sent no later than 1 May 2012 to Moyan Zhao at

zhmy@gsm.pku.edu.cn. Admission decisions will be announced by May 15, 2012.
