WANG YANAN INSTITUTE FOR STUDIES IN ECONOMICS (WISE) and SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS, XIAMEN UNIVERSITY, CHINA

Any field in finance, economics and statistics (preferred areas of specialization are but not limited to experimental economics, econometrics, macroeconomics, finance, and statistics).

Xiamen University, founded in 1921 by Mr. Tan Kah-Kee, a well-known Chinese expatriate, is located in the resort-like island of Xiamen in Southeast China.  The remarkable Chinese economist Professor Wang Yanan, a former Xiamen University President and the Chinese translator of Karl Marx’s Das Kapital entrenched the School of Economics at Xiamen University as one of the top programs in China.  In 2005, to further develop and promote modern economics, Xiamen University established a research-oriented and internationalized institute – the Wang Yanan Institute for Studies in Economics (WISE).  The main missions of WISE and the School of Economics are high-quality graduate training, frontier research, and intensive international academic exchange and cooperation.  Having successfully recruited about 30 faculty members from abroad in the past few years, WISE and the School of Economics still have several faculty positions available in all areas of economics, finance and statistics at all ranks.  Junior candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. degree by August 2013 and have evidence of promising research ability.  Senior candidates must have a Ph.D. degree and a demonstrably strong research record.  Competitive salary, research grant and housing subsidy are provided, with a regular teaching load of three courses per year.  Additional graduate course(s) may be arranged with commensurate pay.  All faculty members, regardless of their citizenship, enjoy a housing subsidy for the first six years, and Chinese citizens with residency in Xiamen have the option to purchase an apartment substantially subsidized by the Xiamen city government and Xiamen University. Detailed information is available at the web site http://www.wise.xmu.edu.cn/english.  We will interview selected candidates in San Diego, CA during the 2013 ASSA meeting.  Interested applicants should send a cover letter with their curriculum vitae, samples of their research work, and three reference letters (including any teaching evaluations) before November 30, 2012. Please indicate whether you are applying for a position in WISE, the School of Economics, or both.
